Devil’s Den Murder Suspect Arrested, Awaiting Arraignment
On July 26th, the Brink family set off to explore the hiking trails in Devil’s Den State Park. While there, the family encountered suspect Andrew James McGann. Law enforcement have released sparing details about the crime, however, Clinton and Cristen Brink lost their lives protecting their two young children.
With the Brink children safe, Arkansas officers have arrested McGann in connection to the murders. As the state prepares the case for trial, let’s take a look at the information available to the public and discuss what comes next for the Devil’s Den case.
What We Know About The Devil’s Den Murder Suspect
From the murder to arrest timeline, the Arkansas police captured suspect Andrew James McGann in 4 days. While certainly speedy, local residents and national crime followers tried to gather as much information as possible during this time, leading to some initial confusion about McGann.
Who Is Andrew James McGann?
Currently, the general public doesn’t know much about McGann, outside of his age, profession, and work history. More details could become available as McGann faces arraignment, trial, and sentencing, but right now, we know that McGann was a 28 year old individual who worked as a school teacher.
It is evident from McGann’s work history that he resided in three different states, applying or holding teaching positions in Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas. He received his elementary education degree at the Tulsa location of Oklahoma State University in 2022 and began his teaching career shortly after graduation.

According to Arkansas police, McGann’s DNA matched a sample found at the crime scene and the suspect has confessed to the murders of Clinton and Cristen Brink. His arraignment (where McGann will be asked to enter a plea) is set for August 14th.
Did My Child Have McGann For A Teacher?
Arkansas residents, no, your child did not. McGann was set to start in the Springdale public school district this year, but had not interacted with any students or families at the time of his arrest.
However, McGann did hold a teaching position in Lewisville, Texas from 2022-2023, and Sand Springs, Oklahoma until May of 2025. He was also briefly employed by the Plano school district in Texas, but resigned before the students’ first day of school in 2024.
What’s Going On With The Possible Connection To The Castleton, Vermont Cold-Case?
Now that McGann is in custody, police are looking into a possible connection to the murder of a Castleton University dean in 2023. Honoree Fleming was killed on a popular bike path in Vermont and the suspect appeared as “a white man in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short red hair. He was reportedly wearing a dark gray t-shirt and carrying a black backpack.”

Arkansas and Vermont police departments have communicated about the possible link, but as of this time, it seems like the connection to Castleton’s cold-case is speculation. Unless new information comes to light, it appears that Fleming’s killer remains at large.
Find The Right Criminal Defense Attorney That Works For You
If McGann confessed to the Devil’s Den murders, does he need a lawyer to defend him in court? Yes, regardless of the final ruling, guilt or innocence, anyone faced with a criminal court case needs an attorney.
Confession (or lack thereof) is only one piece to the judicial system. The state still needs to present their evidence, which gives the defense an opportunity to challenge the prosecution. Just look at what happened with the Menendez brothers — while the brothers are guilty of killing their parents, during an appeal, their defense attorney argued that the boys were being abused. As a result, the brothers were granted the opportunity for parole.
All it takes is the right lawyer handling your case — it could mean the difference between the death penalty, life in prison, or eligibility for parole. Need a reliable team to guide you through a legal battle? Call Hickey & Hull at (479) 434-2414 to schedule your initial consultation!
