Zooey Deschanel Files For Divorce From Ben Gibbard
“New Girl” actress Zooey Deschanel filed for divorce on December 27 from her husband, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, citing irreconcilable differences.
Deschanel’s publicist Lauren Auslander confirmed the couple had separated in November, saying that the split was “amicable,” with “no third party involved,” according to The Associated Press.
Deschanel, 31, and Gibbard, 35, married in September of 2009.
The actress, best known for her appearances in the comedies “Elf” and “(500) Days of Summer,” has recently found success with her Fox sitcom “New Girl,” which was picked up for a full season.
Elsewhere she has found success with her band She & Him, which released a Christmas record last year, while in November she performed the national anthem at the World Series. She recently created a viral YouTube clip with her “(500) Days of Summer” co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt in which the two sing “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve.”
Gibbard, 35, has fronted the indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie since 1997. In 2004 the band began to find mainstream success and signed to Atlantic records. Their 2008 record “Narrow Stairs” was their first album to reach No.1 on the Billboard charts.
